» Feature Writer Rosemary Drisdelle - Chicks Dyed Easter Colours

At Easter, hatcheries sometimes dye newborn chicks different colours. I gather this can be done by either injecting dye into the egg or by dipping the chick after it hatches. Hatcheries insist the dye is nontoxic and apparently the adult plumage comes in normally. Do you think dyeing chicks is cruel?
