Windfarms certainly can be great sources of energy, if carefully placed. The early wind farms in central California have been a problem for migratory hawks. In the UK, the RSPB works closely with windfarm companies to try to ensure they are placed out of important migratory routes (sometimes they are listened to, sometimes not). That seems to be the sensible answer. I have lived in a village with a small windfarm nearby and would be willing to have them nearby again-away from migratory routes. (Apparently local birds get used to them)
